Strange Noise

You are excited about your new position as a reporter for the school newspaper. Mrs. Dick, the newspaper’s editor has just given you your first assignment. This morning the principal heard strange noises coming from the storage closet. You must investigate these sounds and write an article for the newspaper’s next issue.

Scoring Rubric

4	Student has included all parts of an article. Story follows a sequence and is descriptive and holds the audience’s attention. Very little grammatical errors.
3	Student has included most parts of an article. Story follows a sequence that is interesting, but has limited description and several grammatical errors.
2	Student has included some parts of an article. Story sequence is hard to follow. Minimal details are included and several grammatical errors.
1	Student has little or no parts of an article. Story sequence is unclear and few or no details are included. There are many grammatical errors that make story hard to read.
0	Student shows no understanding of prompt.

Articles must include:

Title
What the event was
Who or what was featured
Where it took place
When it took place
How the event affected others

Skills Objectives:

Students will be able to write an article which includes all the necessary information.
Students will use the writing process to write an article.
Students will use details to write an interesting piece.
