The Hare and the Moose

By Holly

There once was a Hare and a Moose who had been friends since they were little. One day, Moose asked Hare, "Would you like to come to my house for some tea?" Hare said, "That would be great." So Hare hopped his way to Moose’s house.

When they arrived, Moose started to tell Hare about his day. He began telling about his awful day. He had caught his antlers on the door as he came in from getting firewood. He went on to explain that he had mashed his hoof making a birdhouse.

Hare listened for awhile, and then he tuned Moose out. He was fiddling with his teacup and looking outside. This made Moose very angry, so he stopped talking. They both drank the rest of their tea.

The next day, Moose met Hare at the park. Hare asked Moose if he would like to come to his house for lunch. Moose was contemplating paying the Hare back for ignoring him, so he replied, "Yes, I would."

When they were inside Hare’s house, Moose asked him, "How was your day?" Hare started to make a long conversation. He was bragging about being on time for his doctor’s appointment and getting his hole cleaned.

By now, Moose started to tune Hare out. He was playing with the crust on his bread and counting his potato chips. Moose stopped picking at his plate when he noticed the frown on Hare’s face. Moose plainly told his friend, "See how it feels to be ignored?" Hare suddenly remembered what he had done to Moose. He realized that it doesn’t feel good when people do not listen to you.
